# `RouteProtocol` enum

A routing mechanism where an IP route was learned. The member is described in RFC 4292. For more information, see [RFC 4292 — IP Forwarding Table MIB](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc4292)

## Values

| Enum Value | Description |
|---|---|
| `UNSPEC` | The routing mechanism is unknown or was not specified. |
| `INTERFACE` | A local interface. |
| `STATIC` | Manually added static route or a route added through DHCP or SNMP. |
| `ICMP` | The result of an ICMP redirect. |
| `DYNAMIC` | Added from a dynamic routing protocol but protocol was unspecified. |
| `EGP` | The Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP), a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `GGP` | The Gateway-to-Gateway Protocol (GGP), a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `HELLO` | You should never see this in the field. The Hellospeak protocol, a dynamic routing protocol is a historical entry no longer in use and was an early routing protocol used by the original ARPANET routers that ran special software called the Fuzzball routing protocol, sometimes called Hellospeak, as described in RFC 891 and RFC 1305. For more information, see [RFC 891](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc891) and [RFC 1305 — NTP v3](https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1305) |
| `RIP` | The Berkeley Routing Information Protocol (RIP) or RIP-II, a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `ISIS` | The Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) protocol, a dynamic routing protocol. The IS-IS protocol was developed for use in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol suite. |
| `ESIS` | The End System-to-Intermediate System (ES-IS) protocol, a dynamic routing protocol. The ES-IS protocol was developed for use in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocol suite. |
| `CISCO` | The Cisco Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `BBN` | You should never see this in the field. The Bolt, Beranek, and Newman (BBN) Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) that used the Shortest Path First (SPF) algorithm. This was an early dynamic routing protocol. |
| `OSPF` | The Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) protocol, a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `BGP` | The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), a dynamic routing protocol. |
| `BLACK_HOLE` | Just discard packets. |
| `REDIRECT` | The route is added by a protocol redirect. |
| `KERNEL` | The route is added by the operating system kernel. |
| `BOOT` | The route is added during system boot. |
| `GATED` | The route is added by the Gated routing daemon. |
| `RA` | The route is added by Router Advertisement (RA). |
| `MRT` | The route is added via the Multicast Routing Table protocol. |
| `ZEBRA` | The route is managed by Zebra routing software. |
| `BIRD` | The route is managed by the BIRD routing daemon. |
| `DNROUTED` | The route is managed by the dn routed daemon. |
| `XORP` | The route is managed by the XORP routing platform. |
| `NTK` | The route is managed via NTK protocol. |
| `DHCP` | The route is added by DHCP. |
| `KEEPALIVED` | The route is managed by Keepalived software. |
| `BABEL` | The route is learned via the Babel protocol. |
| `OPENR` | The route is managed by the OpenR protocol. |
| `EIGRP` | The route is managed by the EIGRP protocol. |

## Used by

- [`Route`](https://wartiva.com/api-docs/types/route.html) type: One entry in an Endpoint's IP routing table, collected from Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints as part of the periodic network inventory.
