# `RequirePinForPairing` enum

GPO policy: "Require a PIN for pairing" under Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates

> Windows Components > Connect. Controls whether a PIN is required when pairing a device using the Windows Connect (Miracast) feature, to prevent unauthorized screen projection. Registry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Connect:RequirePinForPairing (REG_DWORD). CIS Benchmark (L1) recommends value 1 (First Time) as a minimum; value 2 (Always) for higher security. ## Values

| Enum Value | Description |
|---|---|
| `NOT_REQUIRED` | PIN not required (registry value 0). Devices can be paired via Connect without a PIN. |
| `FIRST_TIME` | PIN required the first time (registry value 1). A PIN must be provided the first time a new device is paired. CIS L1 recommended minimum. |
| `ALWAYS` | PIN always required (registry value 2). A PIN must be provided every time any device is paired, even previously-paired devices. |
