# `NetBTNodeType` enum

GPO policy: "Configure NetBT Node Type" — controls how NetBIOS over TCP/IP resolves names. Registry: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters:NodeType (REG_DWORD). CIS Benchmark recommends P-node (value 2) to eliminate broadcast-based NetBIOS name resolution, which can leak information on the local network segment. Reference: [Configure NetBT Node Type](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/networking/configure-netbios-node-type)

## Values

| Enum Value | Description |
|---|---|
| `NONE` | No node type configured (registry value absent or 0); Windows selects a default based on WINS configuration. |
| `B` | B-node (Broadcast, registry value 1): resolves names via broadcast only; does not use a WINS server. |
| `P` | P-node (Point-to-peer, registry value 2): resolves names via a WINS server only; CIS L1 recommended value. |
| `M` | M-node (Mixed, registry value 4): attempts broadcast first, then queries a WINS server. |
| `H` | H-node (Hybrid, registry value 8): queries a WINS server first, then falls back to broadcast. |
